School Zones on Bartlett and Wilshire

Recently signs have gone up along Bartlett and Wilshire next to Shirley Hills elementary designating those areas as School Zones. The speed limit drops to 20 m.p.h. when children are present. I thank those responsible for making this happen. I live in this area, but more importantly, my children live in the area. Bartlett Boulevard east of Wilshire is residential, is not a county road, and has been for at least 30 years - a shortcut to avoid downtown Mound for those living in west Mound and beyond. The new School Zones will help on a section of Bartlett to reduce speeds. My children are still being told not bike along Bartlett. I have conceded that section of Bartlett near my house belongs to the automobiles, because they have taken it from the residents. I guess the drivers are in a hurry and/or indifferent to the people of all ages who live there.

The signs are nice... and I LOVE the ramps for access to the sidewalk on Willshire along Shirley Hills! This was greatly needed.

I imagine if the residents of Bartlett banded together, they could have speed bumps on their road. I am reminded of a shortcut I sometimes take when going north on 494 from Minnetonka. There's a residential road that would make a great shortcut to get from Carlson to 55, but there are HIGH speed bumps every 100 feet or so. Shenendoah maybe? Anyway, definitely not a road I take unless I'm desparate.
