Langdon Bay Creek's Headwaters

Here's Langdon Bay Creek's headwaters. It's been a mystery to me why it bores this channel out during rainstorms. Before the rain, this was a solid berm and the creek was dry. After the rain, the creek is still dry. Here's what I think happens. A large amount of rainwater comes off the street into the creek through a street drain. Its path of least resistance is upstream, and it flushes this short channel out, which is only about 20 feet long. It stops raining, and the creek dries back up. Wave action will probably fill the channel back up before too long. I also think that the source of so much sand at the headwaters is partly from the nearby streets and sidewalks. This backwards flow is not the same as the one caused by different lake levels and a strong east wind. So another mystery is solved for me.  Bigger image
