Mound's Water Quality

This entry was posted on 8/7/2007 1:35 PM and is filed under uncategorized.

In the recent Laker, a number of Mound's residents take issue with the quality of their city water in a letter to the editor. There is some discussion about dead-end water lines. I think this issue has been around for a number of years.

I'd like to see if a solution can be found, and not surprisingly, my approach involves another project of mine, the Westonka Wiki. I'd like to see a description of the situation that some Mound residents feel they are in. How their water delivery situation differs from the rest of us? I've heard about dead-end water lines in Mound, and would like to know more about it.

The article on Mound's Water Quality already exists on the Westonka Wiki. It's about one line long and I wrote it. The article, using the same process that Wikipedia uses, can be written by both sides. Does Wikipedia work? Yes it does, but it is a bit different than the Westonka Wiki. Wikipedia has been able to handle difficult articles. It strives for a neutral point of view, and that really helps.

So I see a first step as writing the article, as an effort to objectively describe the situation. I've a little experience editing Wikipedia, and I recommend if you haven't done this before, start cautiously and write conservatively until you get up to speed. Remember that your edits may be saved forever. Try to present a neutral point of view because who can argue with that? If there is a problem with Mound's water delivery, the article after a time should reflect that.

While participation so far in the Westonka has been ZERO, except for my outlining it, we may be looking at something new that works for the city. And I mean for its citizens, and perhaps also for its government as they better understand what we're thinking, and give their objective input. I've also added an article on Mound Visions.

One more note: I do not control the Westonka Wiki and have no administrative powers on it. What makes wikis work is people like me and perhaps you, watch over them.  Good luck, and have fun, writing the article.  Edit the article
