A new restaurant in Mound

Negotiations with Majors Sports Cafe have ended. They were looking at a prime spot near Mound's new downtown greenway on Lost Lake. A reason given was for this was a less than desired results from a market study that Majors conducted. Wikipedia tells us the Mound is 40% water. What that can mean to a marketing study is that 40% of the market isn't there, it's water with no money spending people living on the 40%. A quick look at other Majors locations finds they haven't built at a place like Lake Minnetonka before. I could conclude, Majors doesn't see enough money around here. They think, we aren't going to go to their sports cafe often enough to make it a good idea for them to open here.

However, we have a new un-identified party with a "sincere interest" to replace Majors. We also have a new marketing study in the works that will recognize the fact that Mound is 40% water. What I'd like to see is a change at Mound that opens this process up by, not negotiating with suitors who wish to remain un-identified. The Mound City Council certainly has the option to do this.

I would like to know who the suitors are. I would like to know what types of business could end up in our community. and not necessarily because I am waiting to protest, but because like most people, I prefer to know ahead of time rather than being surprised when changes happen that impact my life.

I am also not against a new restaurant. I'd like to see the city not owning so much of the key land in our downtown. It might be hard to argue that its doing so has brought about economic stimulation.
